3 Possible Reasons Your Kitchen Faucet Has Low Hot Water Pressure

If the hot water in your kitchen sink isn't as powerful as the cold water, the problem might be with a clogged faucet, or the problem could be with the water heater or plumbing pipes. You may need a plumber to narrow down the source of the problem, but here are three causes to consider.

1. There Could Be A Clog In The Faucet

Test all the faucets in your house. If the only faucet that has low pressure is the kitchen faucet, the problem might be with the faucet itself. If the cold water has low pressure too, the problem might be a clogged aerator on the end of the faucet. In that case, you can unscrew it and soak the aerator in vinegar to get rid of scale buildup.

Otherwise, you may need to take the faucet apart to clean out scale. Or, you may just want to replace the hot water side of the faucet. If you're not comfortable working on your plumbing, call a plumber. By calling a plumber, you'll also be able to verify the faucet is the source of the problem, because the problem might also be the hot water line leading to the faucet.

2. The Water Heater Has Sediment

Problems with the water heater can cause all the hot water faucets to have low pressure. This can happen when the tank has too much sediment from hard water scale, rust, and other debris that's in your water. Flushing the tank gets rid of the debris inside so your water heater can work optimally again.

3. The Hot Water Pipes Are Corroded

If cleaning out the water heater doesn't help, the problem might be in the hot water pipes that lead from your water heater and spread to your faucets. Old plumbing can corrode, and the rust and minerals from hard water can build up inside the pipes and create clogs that slow water down. This reduces the force of water as it comes out of the faucet.

If old pipes are the problem, your plumber might recommend putting in new pipes. While that is one of the more expensive plumbing services, if your pipes are old and corroded, they could burst and start leaking at any time. It's better to replace pipes when they have damage that can't be repaired or you might have to deal with a plumbing emergency later.

When all the cold water faucets have normal water pressure while the hot ones don't, that helps the plumber rule out some problems, such as a broken pressure regulator valve. Whatever the problem, a plumber can track it down and make repairs so you have a strong stream of water for kitchen duties again.
